Simple Munificence

Simple Munificence

16" x 20" x 1.5"

Acrylic on Canvas

This painting is SOLD.

This highly textured painting is part of my new Synchronal Variety series. These paintings combine decorative abstraction and meticulous photorealism in a contemporary wabi-sabi aesthetic. Wabi-sabi refers to the traditional Japanese aesthetic of appreciating things that are impermanent, imperfect, and incomplete. This ideal manifests itself in the abstract background of the piece, which is comprised of many textural layers, overlaid with delicate designs. This painting features a photorealistic depiction of a mother sheep and her lamb standing in a field of grass, before a red and pinlk decorative background. The designs at the top and bottom of the piece are done in metallic copper, gold, and silver, which has lovely reflective qualities. Close-ups are provided below. The sides of this piece are painted black, making it ready to hang without a frame!

Benevolent Unveiling

Benevolent Unveiling

10" x 10" x .5"

Acrylic on Canvas

This painting is available for purchase here.

The theme of this highly charged painting is the mythic concept of cosmic origins. This painting is incredibly detailed; writhing with numerous colors and various designs which symbolize the endless energy and flow of spirit and matter. My abstract paintings are very process-oriented and carry a spiritual meaning related to the mystery of existence and a reverence for the unfolding process of life. While working on paintings that are this detailed and colorful, I become so immersed in the work that applying paint becomes a meditative process through which I strive to achieve balance amidst chaos (similar to the concept of mushin). The colors and designs arise spontaneously and reflect my interest in tribal and aboriginal art, specifically in the act of storytelling through nonrepresentational means. My abstract art is also heavily inspired by my world travels, particularly my visits to remote tribal villages in the Kutch region of India, as well as my visits to temples and roadside shrines in Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, and most recently, Thailand.

Nord-Ouest

4" x 6"
Acrylic on 300lb Fabriano Paper

This painting is available for purchase here.
This postcard-sized painting depicts the view from our house in France, to the northwest ("nord-ouest") overlooking the distant mountains. We live on top of a hill, surrounded by acres of farmland and nature park. The clouds are amazing - every day there are new and interesting formations. You can see the texture of the paint and the brushstrokes in the close-ups provided below.
This close-up side view shows the quality of the paint, the brushstrokes and the texture.
