Deliria

Size: 10" x 12"
Materials: Acrylic on Canvas
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This painting is aesthetically inspired by my keen interest in the folk arts of Mexico and India, particularly in the intensity of their color palettes and their detailed patterns. This painting combines my love for tribal art with a contemporary urban aesthetic resulting in a fresh, vibrant abstract style that expresses the complexity and multiplicity of modern life through a youthful and jubilant perspective. Through the frenetic juxtaposition and overlap of colors and patterns, I create a sense of energy and exuberance on the surface that immediately transforms the atmosphere of any room into one of exotic festivity. The sides are painted to match the front, so this painting is ready to hang! This painting may be hung with any side facing up!

This piece is SOLD.

Geekself

Size: 10" x 12"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This painting is part of my Self-Portraits of Sorts series, in which I use my own face as a model or starting point for portraits which evolve into various characters. These quirky portraits don't really look like me nor are they intended to. In a way they might reflect multiple aspects of my personality; perhaps becoming the embodiment of hidden elements in my psyche!

This portrait was painted on a very textured surface using charcoal and acrylic paint. This peculiar character dons a pair of blue oversized eyeglasses which cause her eyes to look huge! Her expression is enigmatic and unreadable. The sides of this painting were painted red, to complement the piece; therefore the painting is meant to be hung straight on the wall without a frame.

This painting is SOLD.

Rejoicing Quietus

Size: 8" x 10"
Materials: Prismacolor Colored Pencils on 300 lb watercolor paper
Style: Abstract Pop
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This is a highly-detailed, vibrantly colored piece inspired by Mexico's Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. I combined the simplified black outline of a skull with my usual funky abstract style to create an artwork that is vivid, boisterous, and jubilant. I like the paradoxical juxtaposition of the classic image of death and mortality - the skull - portrayed amidst colorful abstract forms and intricate designs, which express the fullness and joy of life.

The colors of this museum-quality artwork are much more rich and vivid in real life than in these scans!

This artwork is aesthetically inspired by my keen interest in the folk arts of Mexico and India, particularly in the intensity of their color palettes and their detailed patterns. My abstract paintings are very process-oriented and carry a spiritual meaning related to the mystery of existence and a reverence for the unfolding process of life. My abstract art is heavily inspired by my world travels, particularly my visits to remote tribal villages in the Kutch region of India, as well as my visits to temples and roadside shrines in Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal.

This piece is a sexy Spanish lover fish. He is suave, he is smooth. Look at his tail; it morphs into a harp, which he softly plays to woo his prey.
