This painting is aesthetically inspired by my keen interest in the folk arts of Mexico and India, particularly in the intensity of their color palettes and their detailed patterns. This exotic abstract painting is divided into 8 sections, each with it's own unique pattern and color scheme inspired by a variety of ethnic folk arts, ranging from the elegant flow and design of Japanese patterns, to the brightly colored folk art of Mexico and the richly patterned textiles of Indian embroidery. This painting is very textured, which adds to the unique tribal aesthetic. This painting combines my love for tribal art with a contemporary urban aesthetic resulting in a fresh, vibrant abstract style that expresses the complexity and multiplicity of modern life through a youthful and jubilant perspective. She

Size: 18" x 24" x .75"

Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Pop Expressionism
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle
This is a highly textured painting that depicts a blonde woman with enormous violet-sienna eyes. Her gaze and expression are deliberately ambiguous so that viewers can read their own meanings into it. I created her portrait using a nonconventional color palette to capture her form, giving the piece an expressive mystique.

Amethyst Deceiver

Size: 8" x 10"

Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This dark faerie is most comfortable in the cover of night. She is mischievous and cunning, yet she is not evil. Her constant companion is her beloved pet, a magickal creature with the body of a frog and the legs and tail of a lion. He's an enchanted frog-lion, with a flickering flame on the end of his tail.

This auction is for an archival digital print made from one of my drawings. The print is made with high quality inks on glossy photo paper, which has been mounted onto a wood panel for extra sturdiness and protection.

Meticulously Mellifluent

Size: 8" x 10" x 1.5"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This highly charged painting vibrates with color and detail. My abstract paintings are very process-oriented. Whileworking on paintings that are this detailed and colorful, Ibecome so immersed in the work that applying paint becomes a meditative process through which I strive toachieve balance amidst chaos. The colors and designsarise spontaneously and reflect my interest in tribal andaboriginal art, specifically in the act of storytelling throughnonrepresentational means. The painting wraps around to all four edges of the canvas, making this truly a 3-D work of art.

Ice Maiden

Size: 18" x 24" x 1.5"

Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This portrait is the latest painting in my Self-Portraits of Sorts series, in which I use my own face as a model or starting point for portraits which evolve into various characters. Usually these quirky portraits don't really look like me nor are they intended to - but this one looks more like me than the others, and is more autobiographical. This portrait shows a close-up of my face, which was done in a colorful expressionistic manner on a textured surface. I used blue to form the main shadows and surrounded the face in white in order to portray a sense of coldness. At the time of painting this in late November, I had just returned to Florida after spending 6 months in England. Being a Florida girl, I wasn't used to the biting English winter, so as the temperature dipped I felt constantly frozen. Needless to say I was grateful to return to the sunny and warm Florida "winter"! This portrait depicts my feeling of being trapped in inescapable coldness. I used warm hues to further model the face, and made the lips a dark plum to symbolize inner warmth prevailing over outer conditions.

Piscean Query, pt.1

Size: 18" x 24" x 1.5"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Composite Realism
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

A golden koi fish swims through the universe, at one with the meaning of life. The background of this painting was done in my usual funky abstract style, and for a twist I added a scene of existential query over top. The sentence "consumed by the beauty and mystery of a world gone berserk" is ambiguous enough to allow free association. A fish swimming through outer space serves as one visual example of a world gone berserk. Ultimately it's up to the viewer to determine what meaning they find in this piece. There is some texture in this painting, as you can see in the close-ups below. The 1.5" thick edges of this painting are painted black, making this painting ready to hang directly onto the wall without a frame.

This piece falls into my Composite Realism category, because it draws on a number of artistic styles and aesthetic sensibilities. My Composite Realism paintings are works that combine disparate elements in unexpected ways in order to offer a new way of looking at the world. This painting draws heavily from my abstract style. My abstract paintings are very process-oriented and carry a spiritual meaning related to the mystery of existence and a reverence for the unfolding process of life. My abstract art is heavily inspired by my world travels, particularly my visits to remote tribal villages in the Kutch region of India, as well as my visits to temples and roadside shrines in Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal.

Rejoicing Quietus

Rejoicing Quietus

Size: 8" x 10"
Medium: Archival Giclee Print using UV pigmented inks
Surface: White, cotton canvas with a primed satin finish
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This is a highly-detailed, vibrantly colored piece inspired by Mexico's Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. I combined the simplified black outline of a skull with my usual funky abstract style to create an artwork that is vivid, boisterous, and jubilant. I like the paradoxical juxtaposition of the classic image of death and mortality - the skull - portrayed amidst colorful abstract forms and intricate designs, which express the fullness and joy of life.
This auction is for a professionally printed giclee produced from one of my drawings. The print is made with UV pigmented inks that are lightfast and durable, rated to last 150-200 years. The artwork is printed on white, cotton canvas with a primed satin finish. There is a 1" border around all four edges of the artwork, allowing for easy matting and framing.

This giclee is available for purchase here.

Contemplation

Size: 11" x 14" x .75"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Folk Expressionism
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This slightly textured painting depicts a portrait of a solemn figure deep in contemplation. The dark blue and purple hues were chosen to evoke a sense of spiritual presence. The figure has the shaved head of a monk or nun, but was left without any obvious gender clues in order to more fully embody the concept of an overall meditating humanity.

The sides of this piece are painted black, so the painting is ready to hang without a frame. If a frame is preferred, this painting is a standard size for easy framing.

Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This highly textured abstract painting glows with a soft serenity. The sumptuous color fields are accented with a few carefully painted forms that blend to form a sense of exotic intrigue. There are several touches of iridescent hues painted into the grooves that were carved into the painting - the metallic copper in the pair of swirls near the bottom, the shimmery pink in the two swooping lines separating the violet from the blue, and the iridescent white in the squares at the top. The 1.5" thick edges of this painting are also textured and shaded with a dark purple hue, making this painting a 3-dimensional work of art that is intended to be hung without a frame.

Dance of the Magi

Size: 8" x 8" x 1.5"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This whimsical abstract painting overflows with wiggling, funky designs. The designs were painted in a stream-of-consciousness manner. They are reminiscent of plankton or protozoa; tiny things that you might see under a microscope. The designs were carefully painted and the amount of detail in this piece made the execution very time-consuming, so rest assured that at this opening bid, you will definitely be getting your money's worth and then some. The entire surface of this painting has a unique texture comprised of a mixture of ceramic stucco and light modeling paste. The sides of the canvas are painted to complement the frame, so that no frame is needed. This is truly a 3-dimensional work of art!

This funky little painting photorealistically depicts a cute rubber duck in a sailor suit in front of a vivid pink and crimson background. He has a yellow crayon in his lap and looks like he is ready for some fun! The colors of this piece are very vivid and saturated, making for a fun, whimsical still life. The signature in the bottom right corner is a very subdued shade of mauve, which the scanner didn't pick upvery well, but it is legible in person.

Marble Reflections

Size: 8" x 10" - Standard size for easy framing!
Medium: Prismacolor Colored Pencils
Surface: Acid-Free Archival Strathmore Artagain Paper
Style: Photorealism / Realism
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This photorealistic drawing depicts a variety of colorful marbles inside a glass tumbler. The marbles and tumbler were rendered in a tight photorealistic style (see close-up below). The shadow is done in a realistic yet slightly more expressive hand, conveying the fleeting and temporary nature of light and shadow. My conceptual interest in this piece lies in the contrast between the tactilely solid nature of the marbles and glass, juxtaposed against the soft and feathery forms of the shadows.

A border has been left around the edges of the paper to make for easy matting and framing.

These quirky portraits don't really look like me nor are they intended to. In a way they might reflect multiple aspects of my personality; perhaps becoming the embodiment of hidden elements in my psyche!

This portrait was painted on a very textured surface using charcoal and acrylic paint. This peculiar character dons a pair of blue oversized eyeglasses which cause her eyes to look huge!
