Easter Bunny

Easter Bunny

Size: 6" x 6"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Wood Panel
Style: Photorealism
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This painting is SOLD.
This meticulously detailed painting depicts a chocolate Easter bunny in its colored foil wrapper. There is a huge amount of detail in this piece, with all the lights and shadows created by the tiny wrinkles in the foil. I enjoy the process of photorealist painting, as it requires intense focus and concentration which usually leads to a rather meditative state of seeing and painting.

I plan to offer at least 2-3 small photorealist still lifes each week, so check back!

Curvilinear

Curvilinear

Size: 8" x 10" x 1.5"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Abstract / Pop
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This painting depicts the basic facial features of a person painted over an Abstract Expressionist background of whites, reds, blues and purples. The eyes are overly large, in a contemporary pop style. Curly designs are painted around the face, which add another dimension and sense of mystery to the portrait. I enjoy creating portraits from my imagination using unconventional color combinations as a way to convey certain moods and feelings which are left open to the interpretation of the viewer.

Curious Chords

Curious Chords

Size: 8" x 10"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas Sheet, Unstretched
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This highly charged painting vibrates with color and detail. My abstract paintings are very process-oriented. While working on paintings that are this detailed and colorful, I become so immersed in the work that applying paint becomes a meditative process through which I strive to achieve balance amidst chaos. The colors and designs arise spontaneously and reflect my interest in tribal and aboriginal art, specifically in the act of storytelling through nonrepresentational means.

My abstract paintings carry a spiritual meaning related to the mystery of existence and a reverence for the unfolding process of life. My abstract art is heavily inspired by my world travels, particularly my visits to remote tribal villages in the Kutch region of India, as well as my visits to temples and roadside shrines in Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, and most recently, Thailand.

Mark & Sarah / From Abroad

Mark & Sarah / From Abroad

Size: 6" x 6"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Wood Panel
Style: Photorealism
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This meticulously detailed painting depicts a blue-footed booby keychain, and two Finnish candy boxes. The keychain was given to me as a gift from my friend Mark, upon his return from Ecuador. The candy boxes were a gift from my friend Sarah, upon her return from Europe, which included a few days in Finland. Hence the title of this piece! I like the way the colors of the bird are echoed in the colors of the bottom candy box. I enjoy the process of photorealist painting, as it requires intense focus and concentration which usually leads to a rather meditative state of seeing and painting.

This colorful painting depicts a young woman with an intense and soulful gaze. Her enigmatic demeanor is open to the viewer's interpretation! With this piece I was interested in capturing the essence of this young woman's energy via color. To enhance the sense of mood and energy, the surface of this painting is quite textured.

This painting depicts an old Spanish casino once located in Ybor City in Florida. The colors are vibrant and bright, reflecting a sense of energy and life. Relucent Spirit

Relucent Spirit

Size: 6" x 6"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Wood Panel
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This painting is available for purchase here.
I spent 3 months this summer on a beautiful hilltop in southern France, surrounded by lush views and plenty of nature. My abstract paintings have been heavily influenced by my panoramic surroundings as well as my up-close observations of plants and insect life. I have termed my new series of nature-based abstracts my Anicca series. Anicca is a Pali term meaning impermanence. Like the Impressionists, I am deeply influenced by the changes in the scenery around me caused by the changing position of the sun and atmospheric changes such as wind, rain, and fog. These paintings depict the ever-changing quality of nature; its unpredictability, raw form, and constant flow. This painting depicts the magnificent sunsets as seen from the hill - with dramatic colors and beautiful cloud formations.

La Danse Heureuse I

La Danse Heureuse I

Size: 9" x 12" x .5"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This painting is a brightly colored abstract floral explosion! The style is aesthetically inspired by my keen interest in the folk arts of Mexico and India, particularly in the intensity of their color palettes and their detailed patterns. This painting combines my love for tribal art with a contemporary urban aesthetic, resulting in a fresh, vibrant abstract style that expresses the complexity and multiplicity of modern life through a youthful and jubilant perspective. The color scheme of this painting was inspired by the intricate embroidery created by the tribal Kutch people in India. Several metallic paints are used - gold, silver, copper, and turquoise - as decorative accents which reference the tiny mirrors that they embroider into their clothes and tapestries. This painting may be hung with any side facing up! The .5" thick edges of this painting are painted black, so this painting ready to hang directly onto the wall without a frame!

This painting is SOLD.

Rejoicing Quietus 2

Image Size: 8" x 10"
Framed Size: approx. 13.75" x 15.5" x 1"
Medium: Prismacolor Colored Pencils
Surface: 300lb Smooth Hot-Pressed Watercolor Paper
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This drawing is SOLD.

This is a highly-detailed, vibrantly colored piece inspired by Mexico's Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. I combined the simplified black outline of a skull with my usual funky abstract style to create an artwork that is vivid, boisterous, and jubilant. I like the paradoxical juxtaposition of the classic image of death and mortality - the skull - portrayed amidst colorful abstract forms and intricate designs, which express the fullness and joy of life. This image is bright, psychedelic, and incredibly detailed! This piece is framed behind plexiglass inside a simple, classic black frame - wired and ready to hang!
