Toujours Jeune

Size: 18" x 24" x 1.5"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Abstract / Realism
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle

This highly textured painting is part of my new Synchronal Variety series. These paintings combine decorative abstraction and meticulous photorealism in a contemporary wabi-sabi aesthetic. Wabi-sabi refers to the traditional Japanese aesthetic of appreciating things that are impermanent, imperfect, and incomplete. This ideal manifests itself in the abstract background of the piece, which is comprised of many textural layers, overlaid with delicate designs. A young lamb sits in the bright green grass in front of a background of clovers. The yellow/orange strip at the top is decorated with a pattern of blue and lavender flowers. The pink decorative border separating the top layer from the middle layer is created with soft pink paint textured with tiny glass beads. The bottom maroon layer features a decorative abstract design overlaying a rough sensual texture. The colors and subject matter of this piece create a painting that is joyous and peaceful. If you look carefully at the front view of the painting (above left), you will notice that the digital camera lens causes some bowing to occur, causing what are in reality straight lines to appear slightly curved. The lines delineating each color section of this piece are in fact straight, and not slightly curved as they may appear in these digital photos. The 1.5" thick edges of this painting are painted black, making this painting ready to hang directly onto the wall without a frame.

This painting is SOLD.
