Florchestra
Size: 8" x 8" x 1.5"
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle
This painting is a brightly colored abstract floral explosion! The style is aesthetically inspired by my keen interest in the folk arts of Mexico and India, particularly in the intensity of their color palettes and their detailed patterns. This painting combines my love for tribal art with a contemporary urban aesthetic resulting in a fresh, vibrant abstract style that expresses the complexity and multiplicity of modern life through a youthful and jubilant perspective. Through the frenetic juxtaposition and overlap of colors and patterns, I create a sense of energy and exuberance on the surface that immediately transforms the atmosphere of any room into one of exotic festivity. This piece resonates with themes of springtime, rejuvenation, and growth. This piece is painted on all four sides of the canvas, making it truly a 3-D work of art! This painting may be hung with any side facing up!
This painting is SOLD.

Over the weekend I went on a wonderful 6 mile walk through the Sussex countryside. The views never cease to amaze me when I find myself surrounded by undulating hills unfolding in various hues of gold and green.
As a child growing up in the hot flat land of Florida, I used to dream of places like this and wonder if they still existed in the world. I used to dream of running through green grassy fields with no one else around. When I walk through the hills here, I feel as though I am living that dream.
Plein air painting never much appealed to me, until I began walking through these fields. Now I understand the desire to capture a landscape in paint, because the vastness and color saturation spread out before you can never be adequately captured with a camera.
Luck would have it that my camera's rechargeable batteries died on me early on in my hike. I wasn't fortunate to have the foresight to predict my sudden turn of opinion about plein air painting, so I also found myself caught without any paints or coloring tools of any kind.
But I did have a pencil and a small sketchbook, so I sat and sketched the landscape before me. I made small notations as to color, thinking it would be a neat experiment to scan in the sketch and add some colors in Photoshop.
Here is the sketch -
Here are the digitally-added colors -
To my eyes now, the colors look too bright and phony in the above image. But I did this digital image the evening after my walk, and I felt then that the colors were spot on. The green really is that vibrant, that rich. Next time I hope I have paint to prove it.

Festal Chemistry
Size: 8" x 10"
Medium: Acrylic, Watercolor, and Colored Pencil
Surface: thick 300 lb hot-pressed watercolor paper
Style: Abstract
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle
This painting is aesthetically inspired by my keen interest in the folk arts of Mexico and India, particularly in the intensity of their color palettes and their detailed patterns. This painting combines my love for tribal art with a contemporary urban aesthetic resulting in a
fresh, vibrant abstract style that expresses the complexity and multiplicity of modern life through a youthful and jubilant perspective.
My abstract paintings are very process-oriented and carry a spiritual meaning related to the mystery of existence and a reverence for the unfolding process of life. My abstract art is heavily inspired by my world travels, particularly my visits to remote tribal villages in the Kutch region of India, as well as my visits to temples and roadside shrines in Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal.

Amethyst Deceiver
Size: 8" x 10"
Materials: Prismacolor Colored Pencils on Acid-Free Paper
Style: Pop
Artist: Thaneeya McArdle
This dark faerie is most comfortable in the cover of night. She is mischievous and cunning, yet she is not evil. Her constant companion is her beloved pet, a magickal creature with the body of a frog and the legs and tail of a lion. He's an enchanted frog-lion, with a flickering flame on the end of his tail.
Please note that the copyright symbol and text do not appear on actual drawing! It is used here for image-protection purposes only.
The tonal variations in the background are quite subtle and the scanner was unable to pick up the slight hue shifts ranging from dark turquoise at the bottom of the sky to a deep violet near the top. The colors of this piece are rich and vibrant!
